At In Plainspeak, we’re always brainstorming about ways to engage with the great diversity you represent as readers, and to connect you to each other! This year, we’ve planned to add a short, almost micro feature, to our regular crop of articles. We call it, quite simply: Quick Bytes

Quick Bytes is based on short responses to cue questions that we ask those who agree to participate in this micro feature.

Vikramjeet Sinha gives us our first Quick Bytes.

Vikram says:

One line to describe me: I am a cultural cartographer.

The word Sexuality brings to mind: Self-expression.

I connect Entertainment and Sexuality in these ways:

  • the co-opting of sexuality
  • the possibility of pushback against the mainstream
  • a sanitised approach towards sexuality, and at the same time it’s also worn out
  • a certain Imagination being built by a certain class, caste, culture and this influences our imagination and our symbolic reality.

Self- affirming and joyful in this context for me: I like queer dramas because there is a sense of belonging to the larger culture.

Something to think about, as a last word: To explore eros, which is beyond sexuality …

Put together by Shikha Aleya.
