May 2023: Humour and Sexuality

Humour, by reflecting the absurdity of human pettiness and prejudices, can be a subversive tool to resist and challenge dominant narratives of sexuality. How can we joke about sex and sexuality in a way that is affirming of our pleasures and rights? Is it possible to be funny and politically correct? Where do we draw the line, and who do we consider, in the context of what may be offensive/insensitive and what is not? In what ways can humour be effectively used to talk about sexuality and related subjects in a way that is fun and funny without being facile? In the May issue of In Plainspeak, we further explore some of these and other ideas about Humour and Sexuality.
