This guide is one of a four-part series of guides from TARSHI titled Sexuality Education in Action: Guides for Educators Across Ages. Other guides are for educators of preschool children, middle school students, and high school students.

This guide, Growing Awareness, is focused on primary school students and is based on TARSHI’s decades of experience working with educators on CSE. It covers key topics related to sexuality that are pertinent to students in primary school, how you as an educator could prepare to engage students on these topics, and steps your school could take to support you in this journey.

As children progress through primary school, they learn about and form ideas and opinions about many things, such as gender, identities, families, and their bodies. We hope that with this guide you can help them navigate this growing awareness in a happy, kind, sensitive, and healthy way!

All information in this guide is for educational purposes only. While written for schools in an Indian context, much of the messaging and content is applicable in out-of- school settings and in diverse cultural contexts.
