This guide is one of a four-part series of guides from TARSHI titled Sexuality Education in Action: Guides for Educators Across Ages. Other guides are for educators of primary school, middle school, and high school students.

This guide, Building Foundations, is focused on pre- schoolers and is based on TARSHI’s decades of experience working with educators on CSE. It covers key foundational topics related to the body and gender roles that are pertinent to students in preschool, how you as an educator could prepare to engage students on these topics, and steps your school/daycare could take to support you in this journey. As children begin their school journey, they start learning about and forming ideas and opinions about many things, such as gender, identities, families, and their bodies.
