Delhi to Fund HIV/AIDS Treatment for the Poor

Providing relief to thousands of poor people suffering from HIV and AIDS, Delhi becomes the first state to fund their treatment. Launched by the Delhi government, the below poverty line population suffering from HIV and AIDS and living on anti-retroviral treatment (ART) will be given Rs. 1,000 per month under the scheme. Infected orphans, destitute or abandoned children will be given a monthly amount of Rs. 2,050 till they turn 18.

State’s Key Partner in AIDS Fight Will Close Down Today

One of the Tamil Nadu government`s strongest partners in the fight against HIV and AIDS, Apac-VHS, operational since 1995, will close on June 30, 2012 as funding from USAID has ended. In its last meeting with state health secretary Girija Vaidyanathan on June 29, 2012, director Joseph Williams said all its HIV and AIDS projects had been handed over to the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS).

A Doctor can Work in Only two Ultrasound Clinics: Govt

The ministry had found several instances of single doctors being registered in 7, 9 or even 16 ultrasound clinics simultaneously and conducting ultrasound scans in all such clinics in a single day. This in all likelihood, according to the ministry, suggested ‘proxy use of ultrasound procedures and its misuse for sex selection’. These new rules come under the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Amendment Rules 2012.
