By Sunday night, the poster had been defaced.\u00a0Credit Dustin Chambers for The New York Times<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<p id=\"story-continues-1\" data-para-count=\"181\" data-total-count=\"181\">ATLANTA \u2014 With a lick of wheat paste, a roller and a stepladder,<a title=\"Artist website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tlynnfaz.com\/Stop-Telling-Women-to-Smile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tatyana Fazlalizadeh<\/a>, a painter and illustrator from Brooklyn, introduced herself to the South, in an unusual way.<\/p>\n<p data-para-count=\"163\" data-total-count=\"344\">She plastered a poster with her own face floating above the words, \u201cStop Telling Women to Smile\u201d on a vacant storefront here, across from a federal courthouse.<\/p>\n<p data-para-count=\"284\" data-total-count=\"628\">Then Ms. Fazlalizadeh and her helpers brushed on two dozen more posters she had created. Images of young faces stared back with wary, defiant and no-nonsense gazes above statements such as \u201cMy Outfit Is Not an Invitation,\u201d or \u201cWomen Do Not Owe You Their Time or Conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-para-count=\"661\" data-total-count=\"1289\">The words came from Ms. Fazlalizadeh\u2019s interviews with women about \u201ccatcalling,\u201d a form of public harassment by men who feel free to comment on their bodies and demeanor. Women around the country have begun to speak out publicly, in blogs,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/catcalled.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">public writing projects<\/a>\u00a0and on the websites of anti-harassment groups like Stop Street Harassment and\u00a0<a title=\"Website of organization\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ihollaback.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hollaback!,<\/a>\u00a0which document and research the problem.
