Allahabad University VC Resigns after Allegations of Mishandling Cases of Sexual Misconduct, Corruption

Allahabad University Vice Chancellor Rattan Lal Hangloo, who had been facing allegations of mishandling cases of sexual misconduct and corruption, has resigned. Rekha Sharma, Chair of National Commission of Women, claimed that the Commission had sent a team to the campus recently that had found grave irregularities. She said, ‘The team also spoke to women in the university and mishandling of sexual harassment cases was established.’ Several complaints against Hangloo's style of functioning had been filed in the past as well. In one such case, the National Commission of Women (NCW) had made an 'adverse' against him. Hangloo however, said that he has ‘always performed his duties in an honest manner’ and ‘stood up to pressure and interference’.

UGM Officials Criticise Rectorate’s Huge Revisions to Sexual Violence Regulation

Top officials at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta, Indonesia have protested against the huge revisions made by the rectorate to a draft sexual violence prevention regulation in the university, calling the revisions ‘pro-perpetrators’. Muhadjir Darwin, head of the drafting team, said the rectorate cut the regulation from 11 chapters and 36 articles to 18 articles without chapters. The team had drafted the regulation after consulting with several institutions including the National Commission on Violence Against Women and gender experts. Last month, the UGM rectorate had received harsh criticism from student unions after delaying the passing of the regulation for months. The students protested the delay on Twitter with viral hashtags like #UGMBohong (UGMLies) and #UGMBohongLagi (UGMLiesAgain).
