इस आयोजन का उद्देश्य जेंडर एवं यौनिकता के विषय पर हिन्दी सामाग्री प्रस्तुत करने में शामिल विभिन्न चुनौतियों और अवसरों पर प्रकाश डालना है, ऐसी सामाग्री जो कि आनंद और अधिकार आधारित दृष्टिकोण को शामिल करती है।
संधारणा:
यद्यपि यौनिकता मानवीय अनुभव का एक अभिन्न हिस्सा है, लेकिन दुर्भाग्यवश, इससे जुड़ा अधिकांश लेखन, पठन सामग्री और जानकारी अभी भी अंग्रेजी में उपलब्ध है। इससे ये चर्चा केवल एक विशिष्ट भाषा में, एक विशिष्ट वर्ग के लोगों के लिए ही उपलब्ध होकर रह जाती है, और अक्सर उन लोगों को अलग कर देती है जो अंग्रेज़ी के अलावा अन्य भाषा में पढ़ते, लिखते और सोचते हैं।
इन प्लेनस्पीक, ग्लोबल साउथ में यौनिकता पर तारशी की ऑनलाइन पत्रिका – जो फरवरी 2020 में अपना छठे वर्ष को पूरा करेगी – ने डिजिटल रूप लेने के बाद से ही, हिंदी में यौनिकता से जुड़ी सामग्री उपलब्ध करके इस अंतर को पाटने की चेष्टा की है। अब तक इन प्लेनस्पीक पत्रिका के 73 इश्यू प्रकाशित हो चुके हैं, जिसमें हमने लगभग 150 (और गिनती अभी भी जारी है) हिंदी लेखों का प्रकाशन किया है। इनमें से कई, अंग्रेजी लेखों का हिंदी में अनुवाद हैं, और कुछ मूलतः हिंदी में ही लिखे गए हैं। हमें यह बताते हुए हर्ष हो रहा है कि हाल के महीनों में हमारे हिंदी पाठकों की संख्या में एक बड़ी वृद्धि देखी गई है। 2019 में, हमने इन प्लेनस्पीक के कुछ लेखों के संकलन का डाइजेस्ट के रूप में संपादन किया (‘परिवार और यौनिकता’ और ‘स्वयं की देखभाल और यौनिकता’) और उन लोगों तक पहुँचाने की कोशिश की जो इन्टरनेट पर आश्रित नहीं हैं।
हालाँकि, हम जानते हैं कि यौनिकता पर चर्चा पर से ‘रहस्य का पर्दा’ हटाने की बढ़ती आवश्यकता की तुलना में यह प्रयास सागर में पानी की बूँद के बराबर ही है। यह ध्यान में रखते हुए हम अपने हिंदी पाठकों की संख्या में और वृद्धि चाहते हैं, और चाहते हैं कि अधिक से अधिक लोग इन विषयों पर हिंदी में लिखना शुरू करें। इसी कोशिश में, हम उन लेखकों, संपादकों, अनुवादकों एवं एक्टिविस्ट के एक पैनल को साथ लाना चाहते हैं, जिन्होंने हिंदी में यौनिकता से जुड़े मुद्दों के बारे में लिखा है – इन प्लेनस्पीक पर और अन्य मंचों पर भी। इस पैनल में हम हिंदी में लेखन के महत्व के बारे में चर्चा और हिंदी लेखन से जुड़े वक्ताओं के अनुभव साझा करने की भी आशा रखते हैं। इस तरह हम अधिक लोगों को हिंदी में लिखने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करने की और हिंदी सामग्री को अधिक लोगों तक पहुँचाने की भी उम्मीद रखते हैं।
पैनलिस्ट के बारे में –
अस्मि एक बीडीएसएम, सेक्सुअलिटी, बहु प्रेमी प्रथा, डेटिंग, प्रेम संबंध तथा जीवनशैली कोच हैं । पेशे से लेखिका, वे एक मुखर,व सशक्त महिला हैं, जो बीडीएसएम, नारीवाद, एलजीबीटी, यौनिकता और इरोटिका के साथ सक्रिय रूप से प्रयोग करती हैं। वह कई बीडीएसएम समुदायों में सक्रिय हैं और भारत में और विश्व स्तर पर अन्य बीडीएसएम का अभ्यास करने वालों के व्यापक स्पेक्ट्रम के साथ घनिष्ठ संबंध रखती हैं। उन्होंने किंडल पर उपलब्ध बीडीएसएम के विभिन्न पहलुओं के बारे में 3 पुस्तकों की एक श्रंखला लिखी है। उन तक फेसबुक पर या ईमेल के माध्यम से asmi.uniqus@gmail.com पर पहुँचा जा सकता है।
मानक एक नारीवादी, क्विअर कार्यकर्ता, एक्यूमन फेलो और वाईपी फाउंडेशन के कार्यकारी निदेशक हैं। मानक का काम जेंडर, यौनिकता, स्वास्थ्य, शिक्षा और नागरिक भागीदारी के मुद्दों पर युवा लोगों के अधिकार आधारित नेतृत्व बढ़ाने पर रहा है।
पूर्णिमा एक नारीवादी और महिला अधिकार कार्यकर्ता हैं। 1998 से वह नई दिल्ली के निरंतर ट्रस्ट में काम कर रही हैं। उन्होंने उ.प्र. के ललितपुर जिले में महिलाओं की साक्षरता/शिक्षा और सशक्तीकरण पर निरंतर के सामुदायिक कार्य – “सहजनी शिक्षा केंद्र” की स्थापना करने में अहम् भूमिका निभाई है। उन्होंने महिलाओं और किशोरियों की शिक्षा के लिए एक आठ महीने का आवासीय विद्यालय “जनिशाला” की शुरुवात की। उन्होंने निरंतर में महिला साक्षरता/शिक्षा और सशक्तीकरण कार्यों का समन्वय करते हुए करीब देशभर में 80 से अधिक संगठनों के साथ काम किया है। जिसमें गैरसरकारी संस्थाओ/संगठनों की साक्षरता और शिक्षा के मुद्दे पर नारीवादी तरीके से नजरिया निर्माण करना, महिला साक्षरता/शिक्षा और सशक्तीकरण कार्यक्रम की योजना और रणनीति बनाना मुख्य रहा है। संगठन की वरिष्ठ सदस्य होने के नाते प्रशिक्षण, कार्यशाला और पाठ्यक्रम निर्माण जैसी गतिविधियां भी उनके कार्य का मुख्य हिस्सा है। वर्तमान में वह निरंतार में महिला साक्षरता और शिक्षा और सशक्तीकरण कार्यक्रम निदेशक हैं। उन्होंने बीएचयू से नैदानिक मनोविज्ञान में एम.ए. किया है।
प्रमदा मेनन एक क्विअर, नारीवादी कार्यकर्ता हैं, जो तीन दशकों से अधिक समय से जेंडर, यौनिकता, यौन अधिकारों और महिलाओं के अधिकारों, विकलांगता और मानसिक स्वास्थ्य के मुद्दों पर काम कर रही हैं। वह एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला मानवाधिकार संस्था, क्रिया (www.creaworld.org) की सह-संस्थापक हैं। वह स्टैंड अप कॉमेडी भी करती हैं और उन्होंने अपने शो फैट, फेमिनिस्ट एंड फ्री के साथ भारत के कई शहरों की यात्रा की है और वे एक डॉक्यूमेंट्री फिल्म ‘एंड यू थॉट यू न्यु मी’ की निर्देशक भी हैं

Let’s Open the Doors: Writing on Sexuality in Hindi

Objective of the event: to discuss various challenges and opportunities related to creating Hindi content around issues of gender and sexuality that is both pleasure-affirming and rights-based.
Concept:
Though sexuality is an integral human experience, most writing and information around it still exists mainly in English, making these conversations accessible to a specific audience in a specific language, often alienating those who read, write and think in a different language.
InPlainspeak, TARSHI’s online magazine on sexuality in the Global South – which completes 75 months in February 2020 – has, from its very inception, aimed to bridge this gap by producing content around sexuality in Hindi alongside that in English. Across our issues, we have produced nearly 150 (and counting) Hindi articles; some of these articles are originals while a majority of them are translated from English. We are happy to have noticed a growth in our Hindi readership in recent months. In 2019, we also made some of our Hindi content available offline by compiling print ‘digests’ of our articles on ‘Wellbeing and Sexuality ’ and ‘Family and Sexuality’.
Having said this, we know that this is a drop in the ocean and with the aim of demystifying conversations on sexuality; we would like to expand our Hindi readership even further, as well as get more people to write on these topics in Hindi. In an attempt to explore possible ways of doing so, we would like to bring together a panel consisting of authors and activists who have written about sexuality issues in Hindi – both for In Plainspeak and otherwise – to talk about not only the importance of writing in Hindi, but also their experiences doing so, to explore ways of encouraging more writing in Hindi, as well as dissemination of Hindi content to wider audiences.
About the panelists –
Asmi is an active BDSM practitioner, lifestyle coach based in India, a writer and a vocal person, who experiments actively with BDSM, feminism, LGBT, sexuality and erotica. She is very active in several real-world BDSM communities and has close connections with a wide spectrum of other practitioners both in India and globally. Manak is a feminist, queer activist, an Acumen Fellow and the Executive Director of The YP Foundation. Manak’s work is aimed at facilitating young people’s rights based leadership on issues of Gender, Sexuality, Health, Education and Civic Participation.
Purnima is a Feminist and Women’s Right Activist. Since 1998 she is working in Nirantar Trust, New Delhi. She has been responsible for setting up Nirantar’s community level work (Sahjnai Shiksha Kender http://ssklalitpur.com/) on women’s education in Lalitpur district in U.P. She has also set up an eight month residential school for women and adolescent girls – “Janishala”. It has been envisaged as an institutional learning space – a Residential Learning Centre – for women and adolescent girls who have either dropped out of school or have had very limited opportunities for education. She has coordinated Women’s literacy work at Nirantar and worked with more than 80 organisations across the country which includes intensive capacity building and follow-up support to community-based organisations to enable them to design and implement women’s literacy programmes. Currently she is the Programme Director of the Women’s Literacy& Education and Empowerment work in Nirantar.As a senior member of the organization she has been also responsible for other activities which include: trainings, workshops and courses (on Gender, Education, Caste and Sexuality), developing curriculum and teaching learning materials for adult women and young girls, conducting review and evaluation of the grass-root organisation and initiating research and advocacy issues. She has done MA in clinical psychology from BHU.
Pramada Menon is a stand up performance artist, and her show Fat, Feminist and Free takes a tongue-in-cheek look at gender and sexuality issues. She has also made a documentary film And You Thought You Knew Me – a look at the lives of five People Assigned Gender Female at Birth.
