Sensitising Children on Sexual Abuse

This is why teachers have to take the onus of instilling the right values and make them aware of all the possible risks. For the management and teachers of Anugraha Mandhir KG and Primary School in Sulur, it was important to create this awareness - if faced with a perverse action they should know exactly how to react. The principal of the school, A. Shahira Sulthana shared ‘We make them understand - If you get a bad touch, leave that person, go to your safe adult, and tell them what happened. Teaching them at a very young age will ensure that they have a safe and happy upbringing.’
NADRA Told to Resolve Third Gender’s Registration Issue

The Supreme Court directed the NADRA chairman to resolve the issue regarding registration of people belonging to the third gender. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, also ordered him to make sure that ‘fake’ transvestites were not registered. The chief justice said that third-gender people should be provided job opportunities and their services could be hired in contract employments, like polio campaigns.
Desmond Tutu to Create Awareness on Ills of Child Marriage in India

Nobel laureate and anti-apartheid icon Archbishop Desmond Tutu arrives in India next week to garner support for a new cause - eliminating child marriage. Child marriage is a marriage that involves at least one spouse who is under the age of 18. India has the 14th highest rate of child marriage in the world (47%) and also has the largest number of child brides in the world - an estimated one-third of the global total. The primary objective of Tutu`s visit is to learn about the causes of child marriage in India, and to encourage local efforts to end the practice.
In September 1999 the Supreme Court passed a landmark judgment, stressing that Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees the right to live with dignity, includes a prostitute’s right to lead a life of dignity as well. To ensure that right, last July the Supreme Court set up a five-member panel to work towards providing sex workers with alternative means of livelihood. However, since then little progress seems to have been made in this regard.
Forced Into Sex Trade, Says Teen Who Took Battered Baby to AIIMS

Counselling sessions with the 14-year-old girl who brought a battered two-year-old baby with serious injuries to the AIIMS Trauma Centre a fortnight ago have revealed that she did not elope with a man who later deserted her, prompting her to vent anger on the infant - an explanation that police officers offered earlier. The teenage girl had been a victim of prostitution from the time she went missing from her home in June 2011. The girl stated that Dilshad who was a taxi driver used to drop her at ‘different places to entertain customers’.
