‘Men Must Respect the Opposite Gender’

Sindh Information and Archives Minister Noor Ul Huda Shah, underlined the need to create awareness among the people to not harass girls sexually and physically, and also to not deprive them of their rights. Shah said that the basic reasons behind girls running away from their homes are suppression, suffocation, domestic violence and feuds among parents. She further said that children should be protected from an atmosphere that creates tension and deprivation among them.

Fear of Abuse Keeps Bulk of Chinese Gays in Closet in Workplace

More than half of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people on the mainland have heard colleagues use insulting language or tell offensive jokes about LGBT people, resulting in most choosing to stay in the closet, according to a report released in Beijing on 18th May 2013. Based on an online survey of more than 2,000 LGBT employees aged 16 to 60, the report found that only 6.29 per cent were completely open about their sexual orientation, although 45.63 per cent said they had made their sexuality known to a small circle of good friends and colleagues.

The consultation was organised by International Council on Management of Population Programmes and Central Department of Population Studies at the Tribhuvan University with support of Packard Foundation.

Hope of Tolerance Toward LGBT in Indonesia

Although not criminalized under this country’s law, the existence of sexual minorities - also often referred to as LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) - is still sneered at by some Indonesians, with reasons ranging from religious tenets to pure hatred. Indeed, over the last few years, the development of LGBT activism — through Q! Film Festival, for instance — has been quite robust. Yet, the growth of intolerance, unfortunately, seems to also go hand in hand with that.
