The victory of some of the more prominent supporters of the reproductive health is the best `referendum` on the need to pass the reproductive health bill pending at the House, according to the Forum for Family Planning and Development.
More and more women are having problems with infections in their reproductive tract -- which includes the fallopian tubes, ovary, uterus, vagina, cervix and vulva.
While activists have agreed that the draft shows progress in the state’s attitudes towards violence against women, they also agree that the draft leaves a lot more to be desired. For the police, however, the biggest fear, cutting across states, appears to be that the draft is too stringent.
Saleem Kidwai Gay advocacy and human rights groups were delighted, but homosexuality still carries a massive stigma in India, and the court ruling triggered protests from Hindu, Muslim and Christian groups who denounced same-sex relationships as against divine and natural law.
The draft Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2010 aims to tighten current laws dealing with rape and sexual assault. This has happened not because of a sudden flash of enlightenment by those who make laws but because of the sustained campaign by women`s groups for well over three decades.
